May 8, 2024 – Bears Ears National Monument, Utah – House on Fire Ruin located in Canyon was most likely build around the 1200’s. The hike to the ruin is not very long and relatively easy.
House on Fire ruin gets its name from the sandstone roof over the structure which makes it look like there are flames coming out of it.
The best way to photograph the ruin is to wait until mid-morning when the sun starts to bounce off the rock in front of the alcove and lighting up the ruin in indirect light.
I think the real challenge with editing your images is deciding on the look you want. Do go for a natural look, or a saturated look to emphasize the ‘flames’
As a challenge to myself, I tried getting the ‘flame’ look using only black and white.
