March 30, 2026 – Goshen County, Wyoming — I was driving back from a trip to Casper and decided to take the long way home. I was really in search of Sandhill Cranes. The cranes are migrating north, and I figured if both Colorado and Nebraska had large populations, Wyoming must have a few. I consulted the iNaturalist app and found a likely location – a small reservoir located in Goshen County. We came up empty at the reservoir, but we could hear the cranes off in the distance to our north-west. The first road we took out of the reservoir was a bit sketchy, but just as we exited onto a better maintained dirt road, we came across this abandoned schoolhouse. The door was open (well, missing) and it seemed rude not to go in.
I did a little research when I got home. I guess it was called the Table Mountain School and evidently, one of Wyoming’s governors attended it at one point.
